So, I thought I'd take the initiative by bringing up a simple subject.
The movie Up came out recently. I saw it last night.
I couldn't believe what a good movie it was. It was sad and yet happy and empowering. It begins with a small boy who has the dream of going to South America and living on a formation called Paradise Falls. He falls in love with a girl with the same dream, and they grow old together, hoping to someday fulfill that dream.
The main character's, Carl's, wife dies near the beginning of the movie. He meets a bothersome "Wildlife Explorer" scout who accidentally tags along for the adventure of a lifetime. Before Carl is evicted from his house, he takes it up in the air with thousands of balloons.
Seems like a strange story, huh? But near the end, there was a powerful message.
Once at Paradise Falls with his house, he looks through his memorabilia to find the book he and his wife had since they were children. It was filled with plans his wife, Elly, had made for once they accomplished their dream. Instead of what he expected past "What I'm Going To Do," he found pictures of them at their wedding, through different times in their lives, all up until Elly died. He realized that adventure was not about going to exotic places. It was more about the moments they had in life together.
Yes, I cried during that movie. It was very, very sad, in a way.
He and Rusl (the scout) ended up having a new adventure of their own. And even after so many years, Carl wasn't too old to go out adventuring. And Rusl, even though he was out of shape, went adventuring, too. Isn't it great? ^_^
