Okay so, topic topic topic.

The ammount of peopel I have seen bitching about bad english.
When someone says "I could care less"
or "innit?"
I know people who will just shudder, or "UURRGGGHH!!!" at the sound of it. Maybe even a few of you are flinching at the mere thought of people doing it.
But why?
Why is it SO bad, for someone to talk in that way?
I don't talk that way, but I mean, whats the point in putting down others for?
I mean, we KNOW what they mean.
They aren't saying some kind of gobbildy-gook made up word that no one gets.
We wouldn't scream at you if you spoke bad itallian, or inproper french, right?
Also the idea that the english language evolves. Maybe that manner of speaking will become commonly accepted in the future as ligitimate?
Like how gay went form "happy" to "homosexual"
What do you think? Is it really reaaaalllly bad if someone says "Could care less"?
or "Mint, innit?"?

You have a good point. When people can't speak English well, we shouldn't scorn them for it. If it's possible, we should use the best grammar we've got.

I don't want to change the topic too quickly, but I think if people who know better English speak better English, it could cut down on the slang. Don't get me wrong, though, slang is understandable, but not so much when people have different dialects.

Well I think it comes down to respecting one's surroundings at different times. Like etiquette for conversation.

If I'm in a heated debate in the ED, lets say about God... and it's really getting good, then someone falls in and says:

"u guys shud just relize that god dusnt exist lol stop day dreamin"

Now that is annoying. If perhaps they'd expressed the same opinion in actual grammar it wouldn't be so insulting but for them to interupt something with such quabble... It gets annoying after a while.

Though I understand your point and I see where you're coming from, I think 90% of the time the grammar stifflers are provoked into unleashing their dictionary-flying kick combo. Most of the time the person in question will have used terrible grammar, but also insulted the person, thus giving them reason to react in an aggresive manner. I can tolerate bad grammar and slang talk but when it's used in certain ways it becomes a weapon against the user.
