So I found my old thread still lurking on the front page. :/ I hope it's okay if I just wipe it and re-use it? I hate cluttering things up -.-;

I'm curious about what to do with my therapist. I'm planning to schedule an appointment after I move from my current apartment to a new house. I just don't have the time to do it now. -.- Sucks but eh, life right? I don't know how to actually go about scheduling an apointment let alone actually talking to her. I mean...what do I say? :/ How do I even open that door?

I'm also curious when it comes to top-surgery. I've read in different locations about doctors that do it before you have your formal letter. However, I'm located in the USA. So this doesn't happen within the states right? :/ Sorry if this is a silly question.

Sites for more advice/general information? If it's allowed, are there other sites similar to our Gaia guild? Where you can chat with other people and just kinda share experiences?

I know- I'm so badly out of the loop.

Information plox? :3

I'm having trouble finding therapists too. One resource that should be able to help you out and point you in the right direction is the Black Hills Center for Equality. They're in Rapid City and have a transgender support group. If it's not within driving distance you could give them a call and see if they know of therapists that have transgender patients near your area.

The effects of T in early 20s will be very effective. I think the only way it could work less would be if you transitioned at like...12. Your speech pattern if raised as male might be different but I don't think it would be that big of a difference.

For myself I know if I were to have a therapist confirming and supporting me it would be easier to tell my family.

You've still got time for T to have drastic effects, no worries there. If you can stick it out a little bit to get things in order it's only a matter of being whatever age when you transition, not that there will be drastic reduction in what actually happens. I know a few men who transitioned around ages 40 and 50 and you wouldn't know the difference, I even thought one of them was cis for the longest time.

I'm not sure what to recommend as far as resources, but perhaps check out what Zero posted or any other nearby metro areas or universities that may have LGBT centers. I'm doing most everything through my school, which is partly by being a student, but partly just talking to people at the LGBT center and finding out who they go to.

Thanks to both of you guys. I actually had no idea there was a group near me. I'd heard something about it but couldn't figure out where it was or what it was called.

I'll start there, after this holiday is over with. Thank you both biggrin

Seeing how this is still on the first page...I just wiped it and posted my new questions in it.

OTL I hope that's okay. If not I'm cool with this being deleted...

Usually you need two letters (I think) before top surgery. Getting surgery before "the letter" is possible but unlikely.

Other sites:

susans.org

One letter before top, two to three before bottom. Top can be the same as hormones; mine is and I think it'll qualify. I'm going to start looking into consults soon.

With therapists, just tell them. Like, hey, I'm transgender, here's the story of my life to prove it, and I want to do _____. Or, hey, I think I'm transgender, here's the stuff I'm rolling around in my head, and I want to know _____.

Other communities... I frequented many FTM communities on LiveJournal when I was younger, like 14-16. Most people in them are 20s-40s with some teens. I'm getting slightly addicted to Tumblr now. Decent community on the trans tumblogs, mostly upper middle class teens and twenty-somethings. Many that get everything done within months of coming out. Which is slightly awkward for me.
