We've been in the process of this for months now, and tomorrow we should be finally applying for the mortgage and paying the first lot of fees, to pay for a house that has accepted our offer (they totally let us offer less than what they were asking because they like us so much.)
The house we're hopefully getting is a four-bedroom Victorian house located in Wolverton, Milton Keynes. Wolverton is a couple of minutes by train from where we currently live, and it's quite a weird area but I like it. The current owners of the house won an award for keeping the house in it's original Victorian state, and now they want to move to France to purchase an old mill to make it into a museum. The house is huge but you can hardly move in it right now because they have so much stuff - old sewing machines, pianos, various other gadgets, glass cases, etc.
It's what was originally the old police house, situated next to the police station (it's end of terrace.)
You can see in this photo the thing at the bottom of the house, that leads to the cellar where they would throw drunks at night when the station was full:

So yeah, it has a full cellar which is huge. (Adam would love to save up to have it tanked and then turned into a home cinema.)
It also has four bedrooms which are all lovely - one is tiny, whereas the other two are great big rooms. The fourth bedroom is the loft room which is up another set of stairs, and it is far bigger than all of the other bedrooms. I would be allowed free reign over this room, to decorate and will with bits of old furniture and the like (we refer to it as, "The Rococo Room.")
Downstairs are two reception rooms, we'd be using one as a [large] study and the other as the living room. Then there's the kitchen which has room for a dining table, and behind the kitchen is the downstairs toilet and bathroom (none upstairs, this is normal in Victorian houses.)
It also has a lovely little garden with a massive tree, and also a garage.
If all goes well, we should hopefully be getting this house. Normally the mortgage process is finished in 6-8 weeks and then you move in, however we want to give the current owners much more time so that they can sort out going straight to France instead of privately renting and also renting storage for their ridiculously large amount of stuff. So, fingers crossed... Around May or so, I hope to be in an absolute dream of a home.
