Character Name: Jordan
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Craft/Rank: Candidate
History: Jordan grew up in Nabol Hold with both parents, two sisters, and a grandmother to boot. Even though he was the second child, Jordan was the oldest son, so his father expected Jordan to follow in Cordan's footsteps and become a loyal holder to their Lord. Jordan, however, had other plans. He wanted to become a Weaver, like his mother, and spent a lot of time at her knee while she was mending or making clothing for the family. His grandmother-- his mother's mother-- saw that he was interested and while Cordan was out performing his duties for the Hold, would teach Jordan how to use a loom and weave. When he was old enough, Jordan asked if he could go learn Weavercraft from Weaver Hall, but Cordan forbade it and Jordan was resigned to Hold life. It took years for Jordan to get over it, but after that he latched on to the same dream as his other male friends: to be a dragonrider.
When the last Clutch was Searched, Jordan caught the attention of the Search dragon and he and another boy were bundled off to the Weyr. Cordan was already skeptical about his son-- who never took an interest in real men's work-- being fit dragonrider material for their much-loved Benden Weyr, but there wasn't much he could do about it when his son begged to go and the Searchrider seemed intent on bringing back any boys he found. Besides, being a dragonrider was a respectable pursuit. Not like Weaving. Cordan allowed his son to go off to the Weyr in the hopes he would Impress a Brown or a Bronze, but, privately, Jordan knew that he wouldn't likely Impress so high as that. Shortly before he was Chosen, Jordan had realized he didn't like girls like his other friends, and was instead getting crushes on them. Like any young boy, he had heard the whispers that not all dragonriders liked the opposite sex, especially males who rode one of the female colors-- Green or the disputed Atypical Crimsons. Jordan knew that was sure to set his father into a fit, and kept his fingers crossed that he at least Impressed a Blue, though there was a sinking in his heart that worried him...
It was almost a relief to not Impress at his first Hatching, although that irritated his already irate father. Jordan was more than happy to hear he could wait at the Weyr until the next Hatching, and settled into Weyr life with excited zeal.
Description: Jordan has lightly tanned skin and stands at 6' tall. He has dark brown hair he wears pulled back in a ponytail most of the time and is slightly longer than what is popular. His eyes are hazel in color and can laugh as easily as they can prompt others to consider his words serious, but he's partial to a rather broad smile and likes to use it.
Personality: Jordan, although equipped with a slightly twisted sense humor, tends to be more of a serious nature. A problem solver, he loves riddles as much as he loves solving problems for others, and although this pursuit of answers tends to bother some people, he doesn't seem to care. If it seems like someone has a secret, he'll doggedly start listening to collect information and try to piece it all together so that he'll eventually "solve" the mystery, and then will either drop it into conversation with the person or maybe discuss it with one of the few people who spends more than casual amounts of time with him. Maybe it's the lack of caring that actually bothers others, but who's he to know what they're thinking? He isn't a mindreader. If they can't appreciate him or his sense of fun, that's their business.
Others have occasionally described him as "flamboyant", because he does have moments where-- in a seemingly out-of-character way-- he acts rather boisterous and effeminate. These occur whenever he feels like it, could be an attempt to get rid of excess energy or just a chance comment that he feels would be better responded to in a flamboyant way. Unfortunately, depending on what he says and does in one of those flamboyant moods, it is easy for other males to think he's coming on to them, and that will doubtlessly cause him trouble in the future as both Candidate and rider. Aside from these moments, Jordan is serious, helpful, a bit selfish (though he would deny it), and although slightly stand-offish at first, a very nice guy. He has a tendency to keep to himself (and, in the future, to his dragon), however, and this makes those he can actually call "friends" a very limited list, because people often feel slighted by his lack of regard for them. Those that somehow work their way into his graces find that that helpfulness is readily available to them, as well as a more regular dose of that flamboyance than others usually see. This means they also have the opportunity to see the selfishness in him, beyond his disregard for others. Although he will help friends in need, Jordan will usually be concerned with himself first. If he finds a nice skin of Benden white for cheap, for example, he'll buy it and keep it to himself before he'll split it with a crowd. If he discovers a small Clutch of four firelizard eggs, he might give two away, but he's going to keep two for himself, too.
Other: If Impressed, he would become J'dan. Also, for the record, J'dan doesn't want a female dragon out of fear of his father's reaction, but I'd be more than happy with him riding female and will be perfectly content with whatever he gets (and when he gets older he will be too. XD).
