Examination. The word left a particularly bad aftertaste to Yǐn Cáng as he recalled the days of his childhood, hunched with a brush that felt awkward in his hands and trying to complete mathematical and word problems before time was up. It was almost a relief when he discovered that there were different types of examinations. That relief was quickly crushed when he realized he had to read about the different examinations. He stayed in his spot and held the piece of paper, eying it suspiciously. He began to try to read, mouthing the syllables silently to try to help him. Ex-am-in-at-i-on. Examin…Examination! Jubilant he glanced around to see that he was already behind many others. Not wanting anyone to notice how slowly he was going he reached up to slip his goggles on, hoping to mask his eye movements as he read the page, or perhaps simply for comfort.
Then he began to tackle the next word. Knowing the words made things much easier to read them, but it was still difficult. He began by reading each title, mentally marking physical education as a good choice before quickly skipping past written exam. Healing and defensive would have worked, if he had focused more on developing his defense. Spells and hexes were also easy to cross off the list.
Left with physical education as his only real option Yǐn Cáng began to read that particular section’s rules. To him it simply made sense to fight someone, or to give a demonstration of his abilities. Perhaps one of the bogeymen that had decided to kick them out of his new home. He would not have minded that in the least.
While the instructions were merely to obtain a fear meter, use your fear attack on it, record the damage, may have seemed simple to most, for Yǐn Cáng it was a feat to simply get that far. Mouthing the words, using each syllable was what worked best for him, and if he had known of the human game “Mad Gab” he would have been horrified to know that humans basically did this. For fun. It was slightly embarrassing to stand there amongst his peers and barely being able to make it through the instructions. Fear, attack, and damage were easily recognizable, but meter? There had been no reason for him to read that before.
THIS IS HALLOWEEN
