Hi there!

After playing a season ago, I wanted to create a thread of things old players could advise to new competitors who are auditioning.

It could range from serious advice like time management "Don't leave your explanation for the midnight before deadline" or silly stuff like "Don't mix whites."

My advice would be to try and avoid using more than 1 pose from the same series. In fact, avoid using the same item twice. The judges warn us against using "sets", but there are series that can all fall together. Diversity is key to success.

For example:

Last season, I had used an item AND a pose from a series (the arms and the gem), and even though 1 pose was from 1 set, and the gem was from another set, they were both from the same series, and it made my post weaker.

To be safe, try for the same color scheme, but stay away from the same series.

Would any other veterans of Catwalk have any advice?

Another thing I thought of!

Always use hand mods.

Leaving the regular hands from the avi builder leaves out the potential of putting an item or mod into them. Utilize that space xp

Love this as a thread idea, Acid!! heart

This was the design look that sent me home last cycle; the prompt was to create an angelic and a demonic look, and for this week, we were allowed to change our model's hair:

My main critiques were that the hair layering choices were weird and that the looks felt too safe.

I took a really literal approach to the challenge because I was afraid that the looks would not translate to the theme if I didn't stick to an easy interpretation.
This, unfortunately, cost my spot in the competition.

SO, my advice:

Don't be afraid to get bold and unexpected with the prompts!
BEEEEEE UNAFRAIIIIIIIIIID.
Be unexpected.
Let those creative juices FLY!
But also, be intentional with your design choices.

Ouuu this is a cool thread!

Let's see... try not to accidentally "runway" your model.

This is a fashion forward competition and I've seen great concepts crash and burn because they either used too many filters that made the background interesting but made it harder to the see the clothes, or items that block part of the model's outfit, etc.

oh yeah, and personally one of my worst ongoing critiques was that my submissions just didn't have that "it" factor, or were too simple. My advice would be that if you are trying to match a realistic outfit, make sure to still add in extra personality and glam!

When you're unsure, check out your judges' preferences & use them as a guideline~
Lot of them are past competitors with entries that reflect their taste.
They fancy certain colors like pastels; some like backgrounds some don't; some love fantasy.... So you can win some points if you keep them in mind.

Though if possible try avoiding having the same themes / ideas as your competitors (maybe even past entries) because it can be quite boring to have the same idea & you are judged on creativity. So something new!

As writing is not my strong suit (which honestly this burned me out a lot, so a major reason why I haven't auditioned again) , but somehow I got by..........my only tip is to try to give meaning & purpose to items you chose & tie it back to the theme! If you can maybe weave out a small story to bring your entry to life.

I think though posting early or late can be a double-edge sword; sometimes they think you made the entry in a rush if you post early; if you post late you can check your competitors and make sure your entry is different from theirs to stand out, etc.
