[follows ????]

Pyrrhus didn't have to go far to find a decent space to sit down--Destiny City clearly had public works in mind, or whatever, since there seemed to be benches and tables fairly frequently along walking paths and streets. He found one, dropped himself onto it, and gestured for her to sit with him.

"So. Basics to start. I'm Sailor Pyrrhus, born and raise don the asteroid Pyrrhus, I'm the last of my people, and realistically I sohuld have died a thousand years ago but I'm still here because Chaos ate my planet."

Drop her in the deep end. See how she came out. Pyrrhus had to admit, he was curious to see how she absorbed that particular surface level overview of who he was, given that she was Chaos herself. Maybe it would shake something loose like it had with Tyndareus, or maybe it wouldn't, but either way, he was sort of curious to see.

Bélénos had opened her mouth to start asking questions the second the two of them sat down, and snapped it shut as Pyrrhus answered the first portion of them quickly.

"Efficient," she remarked lightly, frowning a moment later. "I'm sorry that you're the last of your people. I can't imagine how that feels."

She wasn't quite sure if she should give that statement of his the gravitas it deserved, but given the way he had sort of just... rapid-fire said it, maybe he had come to terms with it already? She had no idea, but it didn't feel right, regardless, to disregard such a thing so easily.

Okay, no sign that it had shaken anything loose, but at least she seemed to be treating this with a lot of gravity. That was...sweet, in its way.

"Thank you," he said, honestly. "I...have had a couple hundred years to come to terms with it, but it sucks." He missed his world the way it had been--vibrant and alive and dangerous and messy, full of people who wanted him dead but people nonetheless.

All of that was gone. He knew he needed to accept it, but it still hurt. Even if he was able to fix the Chaos, bring back some of the life, get the planet breathing again, it would still be...empty. He was the last Pyrrhan. The next Sailor Pyrrhus might well be born on Earth, like all the other new-generation Senshi.

"So. What else do you want to know?"

Bélénos nodded, accepting his statement. Still. It can't have been a very happy 200 or so years. She inhaled and exhaled slowly, swinging her feet.

"Hmm. A couple hundred years? So like… you were really alive back then. When it was all the planets and asteroids and stuff, thriving with life, and all kinds of people who weren't just human," she babbled a little. "What was it like? Just… going to a whole different place? With all those different kinds of people and cultures and languages and… I mean, probably not that different from going to a different country on Earth, but still. You're purple. That's definitely very different from anything on Earth. I just…"

She frowned, looking away from him to the city. "...I've always wondered what it would be like to meet true alien life. And here we are, and… it's kinda depressing. Sorry."

"I was, yes," Pyrrhus said. "It was...pretty normal, actually?" He frowned, a little. "Or, I guess--there was some culture shock the first few times I visited somewhere really different, but the more places I went, the more people I met and saw, the more comfortable I got with it. But there was always somewhere new to go and something new to find."

He grinned.

"...And something new to steal and someone new to con, but that was the fun part of being sort of an adventurer-criminal with a very loyal crew. We got into all sorts of trouble on all sorts of planets."

Ah, he really did miss that life.

"It probably isn't all that different than traveling between countries on Earth. I mean, based on what I've seen, it might actually have been easier, especially since my crew and I were Senshi, which meant we got into a lot of important places that absolutely would not have hosted ordinary criminal scum. That, and my cousin is legitimately an incredibly talented musician and a very gifted performer in very specific and useful ways. So he got us in some doors that our status didn't." He hadn't really thought about it too in depth before, how much his experience differed from the average Pyrrhan's who never left their world.

But that, Pyrrhus thought, was their loss.

Bélénos gaped at the word con, then a slow grin stole over her face as Pyrrhus explained himself further, nearly bouncing in her seat on the bench.

"Adventurer-criminals?! Dude! That's so cool!" she said, clasping her hands together with excitement. "You sound like pirates or something."

She crossed her legs, adjusting her skirt a little. "I kinda wanna ask what stuff you guys were doing, but, uh… I'm a little surprised you don't want to ask me anything? I mean, obviously you're against Chaos s**t, but like… most folks on your side barely seem to know the Dark Mirror exists, and only focus on the Negaverse. Not that I want to get beaten up more often, but, well. You can ask if you want."

“I guess that’s not entirely off?” Pyrrhus looked thoughtful, for a moment. “Not so much on the high seas, though. It’s like…I saw this movie, after I came to your world, because I like your movies, they are very fun, called Ocean’s 11? We were kind of like that.” But on a much wider scale and with much different motives. Sometimes. There had been a revenge heist or two over the years, for certain.

“And you’ll forgive me for saying this,” he said, “but I have to admit that I don’t have that many questions for you, no. Your…Court mostly stays out of everyone’s way, yeah? Which means you’re not out doing more than draining people sometimes. But on the whole, I don’t really need the details. I know what Chaos is. I know what it does. Whatever lies it’s telling you, whatever it’s showing you—all it wants is to consume.”

Okay, now Bélénos really wanted to get more details from this guy. Ocean's 11? Man, whoever showed him that movie really should introduce Pyrrhus to Leverage.

But the way he shut her down so quickly kind of sucked the wind from her sails and she bit her lip, shrugging.

"I know why you think that. The Negaverse is—they're—ostensibly, we're uneasy allies," she explained, despite Pyrrhus not having asked anything, "But I don't really trust them. I trust a random Order guy who used his weird negation magic on me more than I trust a random Agent with a smile on his face."

Sighing, she continued, "And, of course, the way it consumed all your planets. I believe what I've heard. But I do genuinely think ours is different. We don't want Earth to be eaten or whatever. But we also…"

Oh. She really didn't want to say this next bit to the alien's face, but, well…. "We just don't want to deal with the baggage of being the first Sailor Bélénos in a thousand years. To go back and forth between a dead planet and home, trying to revive a place that was lost a long time ago. We're creating a new magical realm, a refuge. For us, the past is just… the past. I'm glad it's working out for a bunch of y'all, but I just don't care about Bélénosian pears or what have you. Our lives are ours, especially with no people to protect on that old planet or asteroid, et cetera. Maybe it would be different if Bélénos was a planet full of slumbering horse girl aliens who needed me to come help them wake up, but as far as I've heard? Nobody's still alive except a few Senshi, and…"

She smiled sadly at him. "Unearthing all that pain isn't what I want to do with my life. But I'm sorry, for what you're going through. I mean it. I…" She wiped a few sudden tears away, taking a deep breath. "Yeah. That's pretty much it. Not all that interesting and we prefer to stay uninteresting."

Ah. Pyrrhus had to admit, he admired the stubborn certainty Bélénos displayed in the face of actual living evidence that Chaos was dangerous. At least she had the good sense not to trust the Negaverse, that was probably a leg up for her, and it sounded like the Court in general wasn’t big on their stabby compatriots, but…

Pyrrhus also couldn’t be surprised that Chaos was so hungry, it wanted to eat its own.

“You probably won’t believe this from a thousand year old man,” he said, “but I completely understand not wanting to be tied to a legacy that’s forced on you by the coincidence of your starseed. Unfortunately, Pyrrhus was a shithole before it was ravaged by Chaos and now it’s a dead shithole, but it’s my shithole and I intend to see it alive again. Bélénos is just someplace far away to you, right?” Honestly, it was surprising to him that so many modern Senshi were so interested in their planets, given how separated from them they were.

“You have to do what’s right for yourself. But I don’t need the Negaverse to tell me that Chaos destroys whatever it touches. I saw it on my world. My cousin’s. My best friend’s. I saw it kill my husband right before my eyes, because we thought we were smart and savvy and strong enough to control it.”

He stood up.

“Good luck, Sailor Bélénos. I hope you’re more right about your Mirror than I am.”

He didn’t think she was, but a little platitude would go a long way. Or whatever.
