Tonight was boring. Alexi stared up at their ceiling and let out a long suffering sigh, and then pulled their phone out, holding it tightly so that it didn’t come crashing down on their face as it had so many times. Slowly, they flicked through the contacts they had, and nobody sounded fun.
Nothing sounded fun but…
As their eyes landed on Halia’s contact, they sighed and shot out a text.
Hey! Wanna see or do something so that I don’t end up on the bad side of a yoyo again? Figure out how to make sure I don’t throw my punches? See if my ball breaks. Not like, gross balls just. My ball. Not…gross though. It’s pretty.
Well. Whatever. She would understand that this wasn’t Alexi trying to flirt, hopefully but.
If not…oops.
Where should I meet you if you wanna do this thing?

Work had been exhausting today. Not in the "so busy it makes you wanna die" wan, but in the "so slow that your mind turns to mush" way. Halia had been in her own in the shop for the day, and without Akito to brighten up the monotony, the entire shift dragged on for what felt like eternity. When it was finally time to clock out and leave, Halia for once couldn't have been happier.
Turning the key to lock the door, she pulled her phone out as she heard it buzz. Alexi, the contact read. Right, the page she had met. She smiled and opened the message, then laughed to herself as she read it. Shooting back a text, she made her way into an alley to power up.
Sounds good to me. Woods near the park not too far where I met you work? On my way now.
Taking to the rooftops, Aruna made her way across town to the meeting point. Sure she could have walked as a civilian, but there was still something purely magical about transforming and moving about this way. Even after being a senshi for almost two years now, it still hasn't lost its luster. If anything, the time had made her love it more dearly.
Jumping down near the meeting spot, Aruna landed in a flutter of fabric and glow and made her way over to the edge of the trees, leaning against one and playing with the end of the ribbon on her hip as she waited.

Windsor showed up a few minutes later. They would have been faster, but another dance break had taken hold. Right now Hadestown had a massive hold on the Page and it was just.
Dancing to Wait For Me was expected.
Still, upon arriving, the earbuds were put away, nice and safe and Windsor grinned brightly. “Hey there! I hope you’ve been well?”
Now that they were here, Windsor summoned the bauble to their hand. “Okay so this is the great and powerful weapon I’ve been given. Amazing, hm?”

Aruna smiled warmly as Windsor approached, lifting a hand to wave. It was delightful how lighthearted the Page was, and it felt almost infectious. ”I’m good. Work was boring me to tears, so this is a great way to end the day. How about you? No more nefarious yoyos to the face?” She gave them a teasing smile as she pushed off the tree and walked to close the distance between them.
Peering at the bauble, Aruna tilted her head. ”May I?” She gestured to the ornament, not wanting to touch it or pick it up without asking. ”If nothing else, it definitely is pretty and reflects your sparkling personality?”

“Not lately, no. If there would have been, I absolutely would have let you know. And of course!”
Windsor held the bauble out, laughing softly. “I mean, that’s fair! It sparkles almost as much as I do, but it, and anything would be hard pressed to really reflect how bright I am. I put the sun to shame, you know.”
The gave a sigh and watched Aruna for a moment. “You haven’t gotten into any yo-yo fights lately have you? You’ve been okay?” It was only polite to ask, right?

Gently picking up the ornament, she peered at it curiously. It really was quite pretty. “You're definitely vibrant and have a stellar personality from what I've encountered. Could put most of the city to shame I bet.” She looked up to give him a playful smile. “I could learn a thing or two from you in that department. When I'm not Aruna, I'm… well, not invisible anymore, but I definitely don't have anywhere near your amount of confidence.”
Handing the ornament back, Aruna laughed softly. “Thankfully no yo-yo related incidents for me either. I've been off planet in a lot of my spare time though, so I'd be entirely not okay if an Agent showed up on my planet.” She shuddered at the idea, making a face. “They can keep their claws off of my planet thank you very much.”

Windsor squinted at Aruna for a long moment before finally, they asked the question that they knew was wrong, but it was absolutely bouncing around their skull too much to be ignored.
“...So what, you’re an astronaut?”
It made literally no sense, there were no places for astronauts here, and like, it was absolutely fine if they were wrong but…how else would you get….
Off planet?
“Or are you like…rich, rich? Or is this magical bullshit that I guess I absolutely missed? If that’s the case, how do I get off planet because? Uhm, yes.”

Aruna blinked as she took in what Windsor just asked. “Oh! No uhm. Okay, so the way I understand it and explain it is that senshi draw their power from the celestial body they're named for. So Aruna, for example, is actually an asteroid in the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Saturn. Senshi can….teleport, I guess you can call it? But we can travel to our planet. Knights, from what I understand, have something like that too, called Wonders. I'll admit to not being overly familiar with how Wonders work, since some of it all goes right over my head, but it's a similar thing.”
She was absolutely aware how bonkers it all sounded. “For example, there's a palace on the moon. And I assume at one point or another there was a senshi for the moon, and I am pretty sure there are Moon knights too. The moon palace is…..it's old but still utterly breathtaking…” She thought back to the year before, when she had gone with a large group of others to try and get into the palace in hopes of finding anything that might help against the threat they were facing. “It's…. Definitely a lot to take in, so it's very okay to be confused and even overwhelmed.”
Her eyes lit up with a thought. “If you'd like, once we're done here, I'd be more than happy to show you? It's easy for me to take another person with me to Aruna, and there's absolutely gorgeous sights there.”

Windsor blinked and shrugged. “Yeah maybe! Could be fun!” They didn’t have much else going on, and going to space? Fantastic.
“Speaking of the point of coming here though…do you think that could be useful at all? Because I’m having a lot of doubts and the sticks are simply calling me. Whack whack yo-yo girl. I’ve got a stick.”
They shrugged again, though this time it was a bit more exaggerated. “I swear I just want to like. Yank that yo-yo from her hands–and maybe it’ll give her rope burn. That s**t hurts.”

Tilting her head in thought, Aruna tapped her chin. “It could be, in the sense maybe you could nail someone in the face with it? Have you tried to see if it's easily breakable yet? Because glass shards cut really well, if that's the case. I know some people also just bring something with them, and people travel in pairs a lot. You never know what you'll run into. I met an Agent a few months back who had what looked like a pen as their weapon, so really, it's anyone's guess.” She knew that it really did seem to be the luck of the draw, both with powers and weapons. She was, once again, reminded she was ridiculously lucky.
“My power is Landslides, so I've very fortunately never had to worry too much. Absolute worst case, I could to likely put you in touch with a third stage knight and they could probably give more pointers than I can.” Because as much as she wished she knew more, she simply didn't.
Taking a moment to stretch, Aruna smiled at him. “So. Ready to give things a try? I could show you a few ways to help minimize damage to yourself. This Deep Space Senshi taught me a few really good moves and I'm more than happy to share.”

Deep Space Senshi…
“Oh my god I’m literally kind of dating one of those, kind of. I’m not sure how I didn’t really realize that Space Travel fit into all of this.”
They weren’t. They weren’t dumb, but some things lasted in Windsor’s brain more than others did. “Um. As for like, throwing it, it’s pretty light? So throwing it with any strength is hard, like…”
Windsor took the bauble back, then took a few steps backwards and chucked it with as much strength as he could towards Aruna, and the pitiful thing fell short, falling at the Senshi’s feet. “See? Like, if I could poke a hole and fill it with something? That would be cool. And yeah, the shards breaking was the thought I had for the yo-yo b***h but. It just bounced off like it was nothing so…I’m really not sure. But, uh. Yeah let’s go with damage control!”

Aruna laughed softly and shook her head. “No seriously don't stress over it! I actually didn't even visit my home planet until I was a Super senshi because I didn't even realize it was a thing. Not until I already went off planet three times, including breaking into the moon palace. If you don't mind my being nosey though, who's your partner?” Deep Space Senshi absolutely fascinated her, and all of them she had met so far were genuinely intriguing people.
As the ornament fell sadly to the ground, she winced and gently scooped it up. “So it doesn't look like it shatters easily either, at least from that. Hmm. Hear me out, have you tried crushing it in your hands? If it doesn't shatter easily, maybe you could smash it?” She studied it a moment longer before holding it out to Windsor. “The only thing I'd worry about with filling it with something to weigh it down is if you would have to do it every time you transformed. It might be more of a pain than it's worth.”
Aruna took a step back and stretched again. “Okay so. Hand to hand can be scary. I'll be the first to admit it. But the Negaverse plays dirty a lot, so we shouldn't be afraid to do the same. Go for weak spots like eyes and joints. Back of the knee is great for unbalancing.”

“His name is Lovas, and he’s so tall, I very much enjoy climbing him but.” Windsor hesitated and then shrugged. “I haven’t tried to shatter it in my hands, but that sounds like a bad idea and a great way to injure myself so I don’t think I’ll try it right now.”
The topic of Lovas wasn’t really what they wanted to talk about right now, especially not with so new a friendship but…maybe one day.
“I have experience with stage fighting, I was kind of figuring maybe I just had to like, not pull back and actually connect with the person? It made sense in my head but like, I’ve had so much training in not it’s going to be interesting trying to like…make sure I connect.”
But going for the eyes? Joints? Oh god, eyes were so squishy...the back of the knee though? Maybe…
Windsor nodded slowly and then moved without warning, swinging his leg to get Aruna in the back of the knee. Just to see if they could do it.

“Huh. I haven't met him before. But it's clear he makes you happy, so I'm happy for you. You'll have to tell me about him more sometime.” She smiled cheerfully despite the slight sadness in her eyes, glad to see romance alive and well in the world, even if she didn't get to have it for herself.
”Hmm. Maybe not with your hands, but what about trying to crush it under your heel? Preemptively making yourself a nice sharp bit of glass should you need it. The magic should restore it next time you transform, too.” Or at least that's what she had seen in terms of her fuku. Props to the magical bullshit for restoring her torn up outfit.
”In theory, it's probably not that far off. But from what I've watched, you hold yourself differently in stage fighting versus real fighting. Your weight follows through differently too.” Before she could say more, Windsor’s foot connected with the back of her knee and she went down in a pile of glow and fabric fluff with a small yelp. She looked up at the knight with a wide eyed, bewildered expression before bursting into laughter and nodding. ”Yes, like that.” She didn't mind the slightly skinned knee it earned her. In fact, she was quite proud they took the opportunity.Windsor grinned a little sheepishly and held out a hand for her to get back up again. “It does come back if it like. Leave it somewhere in a huff, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it just magically came back together again.”
It wasn’t too difficult to make sure that their hits connected, but they were very glad that Aruna didn’t seem angry.
“I just kind of went for it, you’re not hurt are you? I just…I don’t know. It seemed like such a good idea in the moment.”
Their eyes landed on the skinned knee and Windsor frowned. “s**t. Do you want to come back to my place and I can get you cleaned up and get a bandaid for it? I have great bandaids. Hello Kitty, Mickey Mouse, I found some Lisa Frank ones by fluke?”

Aruna took the offered hand and stood up, shaking her head with a laugh. ”I'm good, don't worry about it. Taking an opportunity when it presents itself is also very important.”
She glanced down at her knee and shook her head. ”It's just a skinned knee, nothing too bad. I've definitely had worse, especially in the last two years.” She gestured at a wicked scar down her arm for an example. ”Besides, I'm pretty sure people like us heal pretty fast anyway.”
