Hey there! biggrin My name is Cerena and I'm your friendly neighborhood staff member who sits on her arse all day long Breedables owner.
I'm making this thread to personally welcome all who are entering the Desiderium community for the first time (I love you all heart ) and to clear up some of the more technical aspects of Desiderium that might be confusing.
First of all, I recommend that you read through as much of the Stickies as humanly possible. As of yet, not all of them are complete -- but a lot of really useful information is scattered all over the place here. Remember, if you ever get confused, you are welcome to PM the mule or me personally (at Cerena) or IM me at cerethereal. Or post at the Q&A thread like it says, if your question isn't urgent.

[Roleplay]
A lot of the roleplay that occurs here in Desiderium may take place in any of the [Building] or [House] threads that you see set up here in the guild, in the main Desiderium thread, or over IM. Please try to post RPs that you go through with your character in his or her respective journal thread so that it's easier for the mods and other players to keep track of your character's storyline -- this is especially necessary for IM RPs.
There will be no "You must post somanytimes in suchandsuchaperiodoftime" because I personally think that makes us sound like daft psychobitches. I understand that sometimes real life gets in the way, I also understand that sometimes you simply aren't motivated to RP. So, instead, we are going to have a system in which you have to earn so many RP points in order for you to get to your next stage. The mods will keep track of the points and give out quests for the next stage as necessary -- but if you think you have fulfilled the requirements, please feel free to notify us in the Events/Missions/Quests thread. Though the points allotted depends on the RP (thus the necessity of you posting it in your journal so that we may keep track of it) here is a brief overview in case you want to guage yourself:
A short social roleplay between three or less characters, spanning less than roughly three pages: 3 points per page
A social roleplay between two or more characters, spanning more than three pages: 5 points per page
Reflective posts/posts in which your character writes in his or her diary: 1 point per post
Random posts in which your character has an adventure around Desi or Gaia: 3 points per post
Important plot posts: 5 points per post if it only has one character involved, 8 points per post (or more) if there are more than one Desis involved; varies entirely on length of posts, though.
Mission posts will award a different amount of points depending on the mission and its difficulty, and usually award 10 points (for the easiest of the lowest ranking) or more.
2 points per post will be awarded to those who participated in events.
The table of required points is thus:
Fifteen points are required to go from butterfly stage to child stage.
One hundred points are required to go from child stage to teen stage.
Three hundred points are required to go from teen stage to adult stage.
[This may change at any random time, if it needs to be adjusted to make it more fair.]

Of course, you may be asking yourself "Wtf? What kind of posts are we supposed to make in butterfly stage?!?!?! Ones in which they flutter around?!!!!!11111/!?!"
Well... Not quite. But to make it easier, I will list general things we'd like to see you post about in each of the five stages -- and also what sort of quests to expect.
//___Before your character is reborn
...Well, of course anything your character does before being reborn as a Desi is pretty much.. uh.. pointless. In journal/entries/RP worth anyway, it will prove important in later quests -- so don't skimp on background.
//___Quest from not yet reborn to butterfly
All that's required is a short RP with Cerena detailing your character going through a ceremony with the priestesses of the Temple of Oblivion. This ceremony is very important as the impression your character makes upon them both before and immediately after being reborn will affect how they view you -- and OoCly, how your reborn character looks, and things like that.
//___Butterfly
The most influential stage of all of the following, the butterfly stage is when your character is pulled into the World of Dreams in a non-physical form. As such, his or her experiences would be... abnormal in this stage. You could have your character (in butterfly or human form, whichever one is more comfortable) wallow in memories, experience things in the sense of rediscovering it, and basically go on a big acid trip. What he or she experiences in his or her butterfly form will theoretically affect his or her physical forms.
For example -- if you write about your character discovering sunlight for the first time as a butterfly, and deciding that his or her favorite thing to do in that form was sit in the sun and think butterfly-y thoughts, then when he or she hits child stage she may have a tan, light hair, or something reflecting this.
//___quest from butterfly to child
The quest from butterfly to child is simple: it's a naming quest. As your character has had to lose his or her name in his past life in order to be reborn, he or she will need a new name before he or she can inhabit the new body that was made for him or her. How they decide on their name is up to them.
//___child
The first physical stage, the child stage is a fun one in which your character can run around acting like a brat. There are adventures to be had, school to attend, really easy missions to accomplish...
//__quest from child to teen
This will typically involve your child learning about his or her backround, and the purpose for which he or she was reborn to fulfill -- but if you want to deviate on this, it's perfectly fine.
//__teen
Probably the most interesting out of all the stages.. Your lovely teen will discover the opposite (OR SAME) sex and struggle with hormones as well as more difficult missions and typical angsty teen stuff. YAY.
//__quest from teen to adult
Nothing's known about this -- except it involves an extra stage...
//___adult
YAY YOUR DESI IS AN ADULT. NOW THEY CAN SPAWN. =D Oh, and be like. Really powerful. But nothing's more important than spawning, right?!!!!! [This and the teen section will be updated later, I swear. XD]

By now we've all prolly got it drilled into our heads that OMG ALIAPAER IS ALL MYSTERIOUS AND YEAH.
So. How are you supposed to figure out what's going on, especially when none of the NPCs are willing to volunteer information?
Well, that's one of the more fun aspects of Desiderium, I think... In that you're completely free to explore and make random stuff up.
Like, say, you need a hotspring? Feel free to stick one in there. I'll add it to the map, even. Aliapaer was based on dreams and was shaped by strong wills and Desiderium is no exception.
This also applies to information. Is your character particularly curious about Aliapaer or even just one of the NPCs? Well, there's conveniently a very large library in the Mana region, one where your character can browse around in books to find information. Think of it as an in-character Q&A place. Though obviously it's not going to be very easy to find a book that would reveal everything about Aliapaer's fate, nevertheless -- if your character is determined and diligent, she or he may find out some interesting things indeed...
Likewise you're welcome to make up random village NPCs should you happen to need one. In fact, I might even steal the NPC from you and make him or her official. XD;

Cyphre is like.. whoa? XD 'Cause he helps me with my RP stuff and he's probably the singlemost cause for Desi being even vaguely interesting at all. THAT AND HE MAKES TEH WEAPONZ AND BUILDING DESIGNS AND STUFF. He makes Cere not-stupid. =D
